My Reflection of School Experience in the 3rd semester


Well, teaching assistant program has been ended for this semester, and it’s time to reflect every moment that was exceedingly unexpected. Actually, I spent my time for two weeks for attending to MAN 11 Jakarta but it was a short time for me to be acquainted with all of students there. I only remember some of their names and I’m still in the process to acquaint what is their learning style but suddenly I have to come back to my university. It makes me little bit feel guilty because I think I just started to introduce some new methods in teaching to them and they was started to adapt with it, but it doesn’t take a long time and they should readapt to back to their usual methods.
By suggestion from my lecturer counselor, we should assist some teachers so that we should teach some different classes in MAN 11 Jakarta. I’m glad about that because I can learn more about those students but I feel I didn’t give my best performance even it has been my maximum efforts to provide an effective learning process. I got chance to teach 11th grade in two classes of science and a class of social. I found that generally students in those three classes are really different although they are as usually as taught by Teacher Centered Learning. I think it was really nice to meet Social students at the first time because they likely try to respect to me but when I taught them by using Student Centered Learning method, some of them didn’t give a positive response. Grouping didn’t work for them because the discussion was not done well.
In the first Science Class, I was surprised because it was little bit different, the discussion was better implemented because most of students doing the discussion to solve the problems. Although they looked like getting to adapt to study by using Student Centered Learning method that my team provided, but I have not found that they feel comfortable to learn with us. They looked like to hardly study with high enthusiasm. Actually the best part of these teaching experiences is when I taught another Science Class. I am very thankful because my team got a positive response from those students. They can learn very well, do the activity enthusiastic, and all of methods that we provided as always we learned in SSE was implemented very well. Moreover, I am so glad because in fact the teaching aids that was designed by my team of TPTLM course which is BFG, is really can be applied in the real school.
In the second week, my team got a chance to interview our master teacher for giving some questions to know more about their teaching process and also to clarify the observation result that we get previously. By interviewing him I get that there are correlation between the observation result and what is he said. He said that he has been a teacher for many years and getting bored. Actually he has surely known what will be taught to his students so that he thinks he doesn’t need the lesson plan anymore. In fact, when we observed him we found that the teaching process was not really well organized because he didn’t manage his students to do the learning activity orderly. We also found that some students were busy with their activity which is chatting with another.
Actually I don’t agree with my master teachers’ opinion, lesson plan is used to help us in providing an effective learning activity for students. World changes every time and also the generation of our students, there will always a new development in every sector especially in technology. I think in order to provide the effective teaching and assessment for our sophisticated technology students we should provide a creative one, so that they will be interested to learn with us. Hence, for becoming a teacher even for many years later, I think it will be challenging because I should be creative and innovative in providing the learning activity.

Besides that from this teaching assistant program, I also realize that there are some points that have to be given more attention to create an effective teaching and assessment which are the prior knowledge, students’ needs, students’ learning style and students’ background. The successful learning process is affected by students’ prior knowledge that can make the process easier if the students really acquaint the previous material. Besides that by understanding students’ needs, students’ learning style and students’ background, we could provide the effective learning and teaching process for them by using the appropriate methods.

'Arithmetic Sequence and Series' are happening here !!

First, I would like to say congratulations to you because this is our first session of online learning. Actually I am not be able to provide the teaching process in the classroom so we will learn via this blog.


Today, we are going to learn about Arithmetic Sequence and Series, so prepare your self to do some activities below (hopefully. you got the interesting one)^^



Actually, at the end of this course you are expected to be able :

1.    Determine the nth term of Arithmetic Sequence
2.    Determine the total of all term in an Arithmetic Sequence
3.    Construct mathematical model to represent the pattern of Arithmetic Sequence and Series
4.   Solves any real life problems which are related towards Arithmetic Sequence and Series


Hence, for being expert of this topic, I suggest you to read some resources below.
this is the first, the second one and the last one OR you just read this one.

Then, after you mastered the concept, please try to solve some exercises in this link, find the exercises of NUMBER SEQUENCE and solve about the Arithmetic one.

Besides that, all of you are expected to do a project by working in a group. Make your own group of four and please refer to this instruction which will guide you how to solve the problem in that project. Please send your report to my email susidariah@gmail.com at least 5 minutes before this midnight which is at 23.55 today

Educational Blog

Today, Technology is always around us. It is felt closely enough and much needed for helping our easier life. In many case, we always use technology. For instance, in educational activity using technology is happening in many schools and university. Both in teaching and learning process or the assessment, it is often use technology. For instance, computer, I think it is one of technologies which is a must and much needed for every school. Because it is very help our activity in teaching and learning process, such as we are helped in making report faster than manually, making more interesting presentation when transferring knowledge to students and others examples. Moreover, now there is the internet that also facilitates us to search any information that we want to know. Besides that, it is often help us to communicate easier than before through email, social networking and others. Internet also allows us to do teaching and learning process without being at the same place.

By using internet, we can access any program that is provided for us to make the online learning. Blog which is part of web 2.0 is the example. Blog can be used to communicate in online learning. Sharing any information, transferring knowledge, giving instruction, assessing students’ task and others activity that can be done through blog. Using blog as educational media can make the interesting learning process. As a teacher candidate, we should be creative in providing teaching activity so that we are getting easier to engage students in learning process. We know that students that we will face later are the sophisticated technology students, but we should consider that they also have to do bodily activity which allows their body to grow. Moreover there are some students whose intelligence is bodily kinesthetic, so that they are easier to learn when they do the activity which include their body. Hence, we can ask students to do the outdoor activity although the instructions are given through blog. I think the better learning environment is not only using technology in the process but the best one is when we can use technology optimally and also being sensitive that students also should develop their social skills and bodily skills.

Beberapa kata yang kerap kali menggantikan dan mewakili sebuah identitas seseorang, yang dengannya saja sudah menjadi bukti atas kehadiran bahkan keikutsertaan.
Begitu kuat ia melekat pada identitas seseorang, yang hanya dengan menyebutnya saja kita sudah bisa membayangkan wujud fisik dan karakter serta sifat orang yang kita kenal itu.

Entah bagaimana awalnya hingga Nama menjadi sebuah keharusan bagi setiap orang dan tak satupun sepertinya manusia di dunia ini yang tak mempunyai nama.

Meski tak lebih dari sepuluh huruf, nama ini telah melekat dan selalu saya perkenalkan sebagai identitas saya kepada siapa saja yang baru saya kenal. Semakin lama, selama hampir 20 tahun, semakin saya bisa merasakan ruh dari nama saya sendiri, SUSI DARIAH.. ^_^

Nama yang saya rasakan semakin indah ketika semakin lama ia menemani dan menggambarkan secara sederhana semua hal rumit dalam kehidupan saya. Kehidupan yang juga dipengaruhi oleh doa yang terkandung pada nama itu. Seolah-olah doa tersebut melekat sebagai identitas tanpa harus dipaksakan. Ia dengan sendirinya menjadi bagian yang cukup penting dalam setiap perjalanan hidup.

Ketika banyak dari teman saya saat SMP dengan bangga menjelaskan betapa luhurnya arti nama yang disematkan orang tuanya, saya masih saja bingung apa sebenarnya arti dari nama saya, pun belum yakin bahwa orang tua sayalah yang memberikan nama ini pada saya.

Dan benar saja, saya semakin merasa dituntut untuk mengetahui arti nama ini sesaat setelah orang tua saya mengatakan bahwa bukan mereka yang memberi nama ini melainkan saudara jauh dari nenek. Dan kemudian neneklah yang selanjutnya menjadi sumber informasi saya. Namun lagi-lagi takdir belum mengijinkan saya untuk mengetahui arti dari nama saya. Beliau, yang telah berkenan memberikan nama ini pada saya, telah berpulang beberapa saat sebelum saya menanyakan hal itu pada nenek. Menohok memang, tapi ya sudahlah itu pertanda bahwa saya harus mencari sendiri arti nama saya, :)

Dulu, sebelum menyandang nama ini, nama saya itu SITI DARIAH. Tahu apa yang saya lakukan ketika ibu saya mengatakan hal itu?

Sebenarnya tak ada yang salah dengan nama itu, namun terasa begitu asing jika dua kata itu yang harus menjadi bagian kecil untuk menggambarkan karakter saya. 
Keluarga besar saya masih menganut adat dan budaya leluhurnya yaitu ketika seorang anak sering sakit dan cengeng di masa kecilnya, itu berarti nama yang diberikan harus diganti. Nah, saat itulah tiba. Nama saya berubah menjadi seperti nama saya saat ini, SUSI DARIAH. :D

Setelah perjuangan panjang mencari arti nama itu, akhirnya saya menemukan bahwa DARIAH ‘mungkin saja’ berasal dari kata DURRIYAH (bahasa arab) yang artinya cahaya mutiara. Dan karena rasa ingin tahu yang cukup kuat, saya kemudian mencari-cari alasan kenapa kira-kira saya diberikan nama SUSI yang sebelumnya SITI. Sepengetahuan saya SITI adalah nama yang biasa diberikan kepada perempuan-perempuan di jaman nabi. Nah, saya memprediksikan SUSI sebagai pengganti nama SITI, juga mempunyai arti yang berhubungan dengan perempuan. Setelah saya cari, pada tahun kelahiran saya 1991, seorang perempuan yang bernama SUSI SUSANTI sedang ada pada puncak kejayaannya. Beliau menjuarai beberapa turnamen di beberapa Negara di Asia tenggara hingga sempat di juluki Ratu Bulu Tangkis Asia Tenggara. Selain itu beliau juga berhasil menjuarai World Tournament. Saya menduga hal itu lah yang membuat saya diberikan nama SUSI, orang yang berprestasi.

Wah, sungguh indah ternyata ya nama saya (jika memang prediksi saya benar ^^). SUSI DARIAH, Wanita berprestasi layaknya cahaya mutiara. Semoga doa yang melekat pada nama saya ini, benar-benar bisa menjadi bagian dari kehidupan nyata saya. Amin. :)

What is Mathematics?

Mathematics? It was a question from my friend, when she knew I was going to take a bachelor of mathematics education. Suddenly, I got some big questions, for instances my mind asks why it has to be mathematics, there were another choice but why I chose mathematics, what actually mathematics is about. Those questions always go around in my mind. I just thought that I want to be a teacher so if this is my opportunities to be a teacher, ‘why not?’ my thought at that time.

Time is gone, more than two semester I’ve been here, in SSE, I got a briefly meanings of mathematics. I find that mathematics is not only about calculating the numbers, but in my opinion, mathematics is a language as a way to represent our mind about facts in our real life. Those facts is usually used to find, analyze, prove even to predict something by doing some calculations. By learning mathematics, we are expected to become accustomed to use our logical thinking in solving any problems. For making a reasonable conclusion, mathematics is the responsible manner that provides us to make a briefly proven.

Many discipline that involving mathematics in their process in deciding any patterns or judgments. It shows that as the modeling, mathematics can explain any complex problems in a simple way that easier to be understood. Here, I am also provided with a creative teaching process that allows me to learn mathematics from the simplifying way in transferring the concept and procedures. We are always expected to be able to connect the understanding to our real life problems. Because the assessment is usually ask our creativity to solve any real life problems that examine our deeply understanding of the concept. Blessing of God, I get the experience to learn mathematics in SSE (Sampoerna School of Education) and now I know why I choose mathematics department. That’s because of mathematics is closely related to my real life. :)
